Mandarin Courses


Mandarin (Official Chinese Language) is a language in great development worldwide; China is a growing economy and major economic force. This course is destined for those who wish to begin or develop their knowledge of the Chinese language.

The student shall not only improve listening and oral skills which will allow him/her to interact with others but also to obtain a more profound contact with the ancient Chinese culture.

  • Children: from 5 to 10 years’ old
  • Teenagers: from 11 to 17 years’ old
  • Adults: over 18 years old


From 5 to 10 year olds: 
1 hour twice a week or 2 hours once a week. The course objective is not only to build knowledge of both vocabulary and grammar but also to gain confidence in speaking and writing in English.


From 11 to 17 year olds: 
1st option – 1 hour or 1h30min twice a week. 2nd option – 2 or 3 hours once a week. These classes are focused on improving students speaking and linguistic skills in an altogether positive, comfortable and stimulating environment.

With regular homework assignments with teacher support and the possibility to change levels according to each student’s individual progress.

During the academic year, parents will receive student progress reports and may book meetings with the teacher any time during the year. 


Over 18 years old: 
1st option – 1 hour or 1h30min twice a week. 2nd option – 2 or 3 hours once a week. (As well as mornings and after working hours). Classes with a more communicative approach and more interaction between colleagues and teacher.

CLC – Centro de Línguas de Cascais uses the new test HSK launched by Hanban (a non-governmental organization affiliated to the Ministry of Education of the people´s republic of China), in an effort to better comprehend Chinese speaking students.

The test is a result of coordinated efforts of many specialists of different subjects including studies of the Chinese language, linguistics, psychology and education. The new exam combines the advantages of the original HSK taking into consideration recent trends in teaching of the chinese language through research and the use of recent discoveries in the international language test.

HSK is composed of a written and oral exam completed separately.

YCT – (Youth Chinese Test) Is an international standardized proficiency in the Chinese language test. It evaluates foreign student’s capabilities to use Chinese in both their day to day and academic lives. The new YCT is composed of two parts; a writing and speaking test independent from each other. The writing test is divided into four levels YCT (level I), YCT (level II), YCT (level III), and YCT (level IV).

BCT – (Business Chinese Test) consists of two exams BCT (Listening and Reading) and BCT (Speaking and Writing) using point systems for each level. There are 5 levels, no certification for the first, level 2 basic communication, level 3 efficient communication level 4 skilled communication and level 5 adequate communication in Chinese for business activities.
